Nutrients biochemistry in steppe saline lakes from “La Mancha Húmeda” Biosphere Reserve (Central Spain)

2023

La Mancha Húmeda Biosphere Reserve is one of the most important lakes districts in southern Europe. Shallow saline lakes are among the most representative ecosystems of this region. They experience different levels of cultural and natural eutrophication, in such way that most of them deserve urgent conservation and/or restoration actions. In this thesis, 17 representative lakes from the site were selected to study the seasonal patterns of nutrient dynamics (carbon, nitrogen and phosphorus) and its relationship with the ecological functioning. These lakes nearly represent the range of limnological conditions found in this Biosphere Reserve. A seasonal limnological survey was conducted, showi…

Spatial genetic structure reveals migration directionality in Mediterranean Ruppia spiralis (Western Sicily)

2022

Mediterranean salinas, originally built for salt production, function as alternative wetlands. A variety of accompanying lagoon, ditch, and marsh systems are suitable habitats for salt-tolerant submerged macrophytes and often characterized by monospecific beds of Ruppia. Traditionally, birds are considered the main dispersal vector of submerged macrophytes. However, Ruppia spiralis habitats are under marine influence and therefore interference of coastal currents in their connectivity might be expected. In this study, we aim to infer connectivity and spatial patterns from population genetic structures. Using nuclear microsatellite loci, the nuclear ribosomal cistron and chloroplast sequence…

Sa…

2022

The subject of the contribution is the “NUMMI DIGITALI” project which aims to enhance the numismatic collection of the Archaeological Museum “A. Salinas” in Palermo, closed to public use for over seventy years, which will become accessible thanks to the close interrelationship between numismatic-archaeological methodologies and the IT approach. The project, curated by Lavinia Sole, Numismatics researcher at the Culture and Society Department of the University of Palermo, within the PON "Research and Innovation" 2014-2020, Axis IV-Action IV.4, provides for the creation of a digital database, in line with the standards and cataloging tools of the ICCD and with the methodological guidelines of…

2022

Due to the troubled events that accompanied its discovery, the hoard IGCH 2258 has been neglected by scientific studies. The recent examination conducted at the Coin Cabinet of the Museum “A. Salinas "in Palermo, where the complex is kept, and the analysis of the archive documentation of the Museum and Central Archives of the State of Rome allowed to clarify the composition of the complex and to provide more precise information on the place of discovery, allowing to exploit the informative potential of this hoard.
